After the program start you will see the main window shown below. It is similar to Windows Explorer. The window is divided into 4 main parts: directory tree, category tree, item list, search line and viewing panel of the active item. Also there are standard elements, such as menu, the toolbar and the status line.
Item list
The item list is a panel in the right upper corner of the window. As a rule it occupies the most part of the screen, as it is the most informative one. The item list panel displays all items located in the current directory (the directory can be selected in the directory tree). The panel displays items according to their class, and displays only the fields signed as 'Include in Brief'. The main function of this panel is viewing items and selecting the active item. Many operations in the program require presence of such active item. Mouse click at any place of the panel activates the context menu which serves for item control. With its help you can add/delete/give/return/print items.
The panel can work in two modes: normal and flat. The switching is available via the menu or by clicking on the button on the toolbar.
Viewing panel of active item
The panel is located in the right lower part of the window and displays all fields of the current item. The field value cannot be modified in this panel, as far as it serves only for viewing. To modify the element, double-click on the item or use appropriate command from the context menu of the item list.
Directory tree
This part displays the directory tree and serves for active directory selecting/displaying. The directory represents a "physical" folder with items inside the database. Each directory has elements of only of one class. All attached subdirectories can contain items only of the same class. Besides the directories which are entirely under user's control, there are two standard directories: 'People' and 'All folders' (flat). The latter "accumulates" all database items, automatically switching "flat" mode. All operations with the folder tree are performed from the context menu and are described separately.
Category tree
This part displays the category tree which serves for second "virtual" cataloging of items. Physically items of different classes must be located in different directories, but at the same time they can logically belong to the same category. This allows, for example, virtual combining of the identical item classes (video films) physically written on different media. All operations with the category tree are performed from the context menu and are described separately.
Search line
It serves for advanced search of items. See its detailed description
