The category tree is placed in the left lower corner of the main program window. The category shows any attribute which can characterize an item. Besides, the category can contain several subcategories. Each item can belong to several categories, regardless of the directory in which it is located. The classification of movies can be a good example of a category tree. Video films can be distributed on different media: video cassettes, CDs, DVDs. All of them are items of different classes, and they must be located in different directories. This happens because they have different attributes. For example, the attribute of length (180 min, 240 min) can be important for a video cassette, but there is no such attribute for a CD. Undoubtedly, nothing prevents us from "ignoring" these differences and placing video cassettes and CDs to the same directory, but perhaps this is not so good.

So we come to a conclusion that video cassettes and video CDs should be placed to different folders. However, the genre and the attribute 'video film' refers to movies both on video cassettes and on CDs. So, we create a category 'Video' with subcategories 'Comedy', 'Thriller', 'Action'... We can virtually "combine" different classes of items under the same category. Furthermore, this unification allows us, for example, to find quickly and print all comedies, or thrillers, or dramas.

Besides user categories, the category window contains two standard groups of categories: debtors (if they exist), and new items. These categories exist by themselves and needn't be created. The category 'Debtors' helps to find and display those items which have been borrowed from you. The category 'New' is used for displaying new items or the ones added during the last day, week or month. Let us remind that these are not the only search capabilities.

In the picture above you can see the category tree and the context menu called by clicking on the right mouse button. The menu contains standard operations which do not require any special explanation: new category creation (or subcategory, if you click on the existing category), deletion, renaming and printing/exporting to HTML.
