SVN SCC provider - disabling read-only checkout does not result in auto-checkmark showing in IDE

( SVNSCC , VS .NET, Latest, WIN 2000/XP  )
Type: Public Status:Closed Created: 24 Oct 04 10:00 Updated: 25 Oct 04 10:00

Disabling "checkout read-only" option you can update file status with
"Source Control->Refresh Status" menu command.
Unfortunately, without the read-only flag IDE not check the SCC provider in
"real time" for file status. This can be easily explained. When you start
edit file it is not changed on disk, and it status also unchanged. Status
will be changed only when file will be saved to disk. To determine that
moment IDE should periodically check the provider for file status. VS.NET
not does this. For some reason MS decided that this not needed.
IDE _really_ likes when files are read-only. As example of this the fact
that after chek-in IDE makes the file "read-only" itself. Our plug-in
removes this flag at the background thread to maintain files writable.
So, work without read-only not 100% comfortable, since from time to time
you need to launch "Refresh the status" menu item.

Ankh (which hooks in differently, not as an SCC provider) does show the
auto-checkout checkmark. But we'd prefer to use a "real" SCC provider
rather than a non-provider add-in like Ankh.

We've disabled "Readonly checkout" in the SCC provider options.

However, doing this does not "auto-checkout" the file - the red checkmark
does not show up, and the file does not show up under pending checkins.

Reloading the project does show it as checked-out, since on reload the .svn
info is apparently being used to determine it's modified. Explicitly
checking out the file also works, but you then lose the convenience of
auto-checkout.

Is having to set files readonly when checked-in necessary for SCC
providers?

We'd rather not have the readonly setting active, in order to be compatible
with non-patched standard SVN tools (I see you have a patched TortoiseSVN
on your site).

Thank you
