CVSSCC Proxy and Visual Interdev 6 (SP5) setup

( CVSSCC )
Type: Public Status:Closed Created: 14 Jul 04 07:00 Updated: 14 Jul 04 07:00

I afraid that I upset you, but Visual Interdev does not support SCC
API Source Control integration for web projects. SCC integration
supported for local project/files, but for web projects used IIS
source control support. This support can be configured to some
"simple/build in" and "Source Safe". However it is not know which
means uses IIS to work with Source Safe (which API), and not known is
it possible or not integrate something other into IIS.
Some time ago we perform searches about this and found nothing. I.e.
we not found any info about how IIS uses SCC integration, and also not
found any other Source Control systems that can integrate into IIS.
So, right now I 80% sure that there no way to use with IIS something
other than SourceSafe.
Once more thing, that causes me think so. VS .NET, which is
replacement for Interdev, support source controlled mode only in "file
share mode". This mode not uses "FrontPage" access. I think there was
some reasons why they make this.

Hello,

Since yesterday (13 July 2004) I have been trying to get your plug-in to
work from within MS Visual InterDev (Visual InterDev 6.0 (SP5)). So far I
haven't succeeded to setup a project under source control.

My current situation looks as followed:
1) Running CVS server under Linux (Kernel 2.4.17 using CVS 1.11.1p1)
2) a Windows 2000 SP4 client
3) Using TortoiseCVS/WinCVS (versions 1.6.14/1.3.17 (bare install) using
cvsnt version 2.0.41a which comes with TortoiseCVS)
4) Setup the plug-in to use the cvs.exe from Tortoisecvs
5) using SSH to connect to the CVS server, so meaning :ext: protocol
6) setup a system wide CVS_RSH variable to point to a
'TortoisePlinkWithPassword.bat' file (containing
'd:\development\tortoisecvs\tortoiseplink -pw ****** %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7
%8 %9' -> where '******' is my SSH password)

We have set up a development environment for an ASP project in the
following manner:
1) IIS5 server on Windows 2000 Server SP5
2) Created a website
- no 'source control' enabled
- 'front-page' extensions enabled on the web-site to allow working from
Visual Interdev
- no Visual Interdev 'script-library' installed on the server

From both Tortoise and WinCVS I'm perfectly able to connect to the CVS
server and perform all CVS operations I would like to do (we have been
using TortoiseCVS with Linux CVS server for a few years already).

From within Visual Interdev the 'Project/Source Control' menu option is
enabled and when I choose to open an existing project it allows me to
choose for 'Source Control'. So I concluded that the plug-in was installed
correctly. I do have the 'Switch SCC' application active in my system tray
(Is it neccesary to have to switch application running??).

When I start a new project witin VI (Visual Interdev) I connect it to the
website (using 'master mode. Does is matter which mode I choose (master or
local)??). Adding files to the website within VI is no problem.

Then I want to add the new project to CVS, I can select the project and
press 'add to source control'. The first time I am presented with question
if I want to put the solution within source control (I say 'yes') and then
a window (from the plug-in I assume) to connect to CVS. After filling in
the repository and the module, it puts some files within CVS (this also
means that the connection works I guess). If I look within the CVS
repository, only the sln (solution) file is there and NOT the other files
within my project.

So far I haven't found any way to add the other websites files from within
VI to the CVS module, or check-in/check-out any files at all (except the
solution file).

Maybe I am doing something wrong or something isn't setup correctly, but
after a day of looking and trying I am out of ideas.

Do you have any idea what I should do to get it to work?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Regards,

Patrick
